Tamara Mateus is a Salt Lake City based interior designer. Her upbringing is as eclectic and colorful as her aesthetic. As a child of military parents, Tamara spent her early years in motion, this included several years in Japan –- an influence that subtlety creeps into her work. As a teenager she began working for Williams-Sonoma Company – a journey that would last over a decade, take her to New York City and back, and help her to hone her skills in merchandising and visual presentation. She studied at both Parsons School of Design in New York City and completed the Interior Design Certification program at the Salt Lake Community College. Tamara founded TMID in 2008 with the mission of artfully blending modern and vintage materials in order to create timeless and unique living spaces. In her free time, Tamara enjoys traveling to new and inspiring places with her husband and daughter, harvesting heirloom tomatoes in her organic garden and searching for that perfect flea market treasure.

Sprayed my metal chairs John Deere yellow over the weekend. Nice and bright! @RustOleum #decor #DIY #design #Paint project
Great wire side chair at ABC Home. A modern take on the Bertoia diamond chair with a beautifully light visual weight.
These Hex tables from West Elm hold their own as a side table, or group them in odd numbers to create a honeycomb pattern.
The Kantha Butterfly Chair by Karma Living. A patchwork of hand stitched and delicately mended Indian fabric strung over an iconic frame. A perfect pairing, detailed and understated.
I’m a big fan of Tom Dixon lighting, like these Beat Lights and the Mirror Ball Tripod, but he also offers great accessories as well. These over sized Beat Vessels make a huge statement, literally.
I just ordered this for a client. Can’t wait till it arrives. A modern take on a 30’s sofa. I love the tufting paired with the clean lines. Also comes in a new beautiful aqua.
I could rock out on one of these. Savannah rocker by Jolyon Yates. A serious piece of bent wood engineering.
I saw these Kismet tiles at a design show last year and I still can’t get them out of my mind. Now, they offer gorgeously graphic wallpaper to boot!
Peter light pendant made of steel and a filament style bulb. The copper finish would be my pick to hang over a reclaimed wood bar or bedside tables.
